Special Instructions
Specimens must be frozen and separate samples should be submitted for each test requested to avoid delays. Ensure that the serum is separated from red cells without microbial contamination or hemolysis.
Limitations
The test is sensitive to contamination, hemolysis, or improper sample preparation, which can lead to inaccurate results. Certain patients may have antibodies to heparin, even without thrombocytopenia or thrombotic complications, which may affect interpretive accuracy. Reflex testing is guided by initial test positivity and may delay final reporting if confirmatory testing is required.
