Use
The Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) Quantitative DNA Real-time PCR test is used to determine the viral load of HBV in a patient's blood. This quantitative measure helps in the management of patients with chronic hepatitis B by providing information that can influence treatment decisions. The test is particularly essential for evaluating the efficacy of antiviral therapy and monitoring disease progression or resolution.
Special Instructions
This procedure is intended for one-time use only and not for serial monitoring. For repeated measures over time, order test 551620. Ensure specimen is centrifuged within 24 hours of collection. The plasma from a PPT™ can be frozen and shipped in situ. To avoid delays in turnaround time, submit a separate frozen specimen for each test requested.
Limitations
The HBV quantitative real-time PCR assay has a quantitative range of 10 to 1,000,000,000 IU/mL. Results below or above this range indicate sensitivity limits of the assay. Very low viral loads or extremely high viral loads might not be accurately quantifiable due to these limitations.
