Hepatitis C Viral RNA, Quantitative, Real‑Time PCR
Use
Quantitative measurement of Hepatitis C virus RNA (viral load) is used to confirm active HCV infection and to monitor therapy response and sustained virologic response (SVR), particularly before initiation of direct‑acting antiviral agents and at least 12 weeks post‑therapy to document SVR status. A detected viral load below the lower limit of quantification (<15 IU/mL) can indicate presence of HCV RNA at levels too low for precise quantitation and should be confirmed by repeat sampling when used for diagnosis.

Results below the lower limit of quantitation (<15 IU/mL) may still indicate presence of HCV RNA (‘<15 Detected IU/mL’), but cannot be reliably quantified. In such cases, a second sample is recommended to confirm result if testing is for diagnosis.
