Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Genotype with Reflex to HCV High-Resolution Genotype by Sequencing
Also known as: HCV REFLEX
Use
This test is used for prognosis and treatment selection when higher subtype resolution is required for Hepatitis C virus (HCV). It involves a reflex genotyping panel to identify specific genotypes and subtypes that can guide appropriate therapeutic interventions.
Special Instructions
Do not order this test prior to molecular confirmation of a positive HCV screen. Additional charges apply if the test reflexes to high-resolution genotyping.
Limitations
The test may be unsuccessful if the HCV RNA viral load is lower than log 4.2 (16,000 IU/mL). Subtyping limitations exist due to high conservation of the 5' untranslated region of the HCV genome, making differentiation between subtypes 1a and 1b challenging, and in rare cases, may misclassify Type 6 as Type 1. PCR inhibitors and viral genetic variation can also cause RT-PCR failure.
