Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Genotyping With 1a Subtype Reflex to Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) NS5A Drug Resistance Assay
Use
Genotyping of the six major HCV types and their most common subtypes. Assessment of drug susceptibility by nucleic acid sequencing of a patient's hepatitis C virus (HCV) to the NS5A inhibitors. Detects resistance-associated variants at positions 28, 30, 31, and 93 in genotype 1a HCV.
Special Instructions
Reflex testing is automatically triggered when genotype 1a is identified. Additional time may be required for reflex testing. Samples should be submitted as separate frozen specimens when multiple frozen tests are requested to avoid delays in turnaround.
Limitations
Genotyping may be unsuccessful when HCV viral load is less than 1000 IU/mL in serum or plasma. The NS5A drug resistance assay is only performed when genotype 1a is detected.
