Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is a recognized cause of respiratory infection—especially in children—with symptoms ranging from asymptomatic to severe bronchitis or bronchiolitis; it is clinically indistinguishable from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This assay detects hMPV RNA via reverse transcription and real‑time PCR amplification of conserved genomic sequences.
