Inhibin A is useful as an indicator of gonadal function, and ovarian response to human menopausal gonadotropin (hMG) or follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) stimulation. Inhibin A, produced by the placenta, is used along with other maternal serum biochemical markers to improve sensitivity of the screen for Down Syndrome risk.
