Inhibitor Assay, PT with Reflex to PT 1:1 Mix

Use
This test is used as an initial screen for detecting inhibitors in plasma, specifically to determine if a PT-based inhibitor is present. It is a part of the diagnostic process for identifying coagulation factor deficiencies when the prothrombin time (PT) is prolonged. A prolonged PT can indicate the presence of an inhibitor or factor deficiencies which need to be confirmed through further analysis.
Special Instructions
If the PT is prolonged, a PT 1:1 mix will be added, and additional charges may apply. The test is critical frozen, and separate specimens must be submitted if multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The test may not detect all possible inhibitors, and false positives/negatives can occur due to improper specimen handling or interference from anticoagulant therapies. Results should be correlated clinically as they might be affected by high heparin concentrations, direct thrombin inhibitors, factor Xa inhibitors, dysfibrinogenemia, monoclonal proteins, or rare lupus anticoagulants. Some patterns can occur due to multiple or severe factor deficiencies.
