Intact N-Terminal Propeptide of Type 1 Procollagen
Also known as: PINP
Use
This test is used for measurement of Intact N-Terminal Propeptide of Type 1 Procollagen (PINP) levels in serum.
Special Instructions
Patients should be asked about biotin supplementation as it can interfere with the test. It is advised to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours before sample collection. The test may exhibit interference from supplements with high doses of biotin, also known as vitamin B7, vitamin B8, vitamin H, or coenzyme R.
Limitations
The test was developed by Labcorp and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. It may exhibit limited specificity as it reflects bone turnover in general, and severe liver disease may affect its clearance from circulation, leading to elevated serum PINP levels. Heterophilic antibodies may cause erroneous results. Samples should be collected at the same time of day for subsequent evaluations due to diurnal variation.
