Use
The lipid cascade supports risk assessment and management of patients who present with cardiometabolic risk (CMR) factors (e.g., elevated blood pressure, abdominal obesity, insulin resistance (IR), lipoprotein abnormalities and elevated blood glucose).
Special Instructions
Two separate specimens are required for submission: one for lipid profile testing and another for lipoprotein reflex testing. It's important to adhere to specific collection and shipping procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
Limitations
Testing is not performed if triglyceride levels exceed 800 mg/dL, as LDL cholesterol calculation is not applicable at such levels. Certain factors such as non-fasting status can affect insulin resistance scoring.

Collection Instructions
Separate serum or plasma from cells within 45 minutes of collection. Gently invert tube eight to 10 times, allow specimen to clot for 30 minutes, and centrifuge within two hours of collection.
Patient Preparation
Patient should be fasting for eight hours.
Storage Instructions
Keep refrigerated and ship with frozen cool packs. Stable at room temperature for six hours or refrigerated for 10 days. Do not freeze.
Causes for Rejection
Hemolysis, unspun specimens, plasma/serum contaminated with red cells, inappropriate containers, room temperature storage beyond 24 hours, specimen older than six days.
