NMR LipoProfile® With Lipids and Insulin Resistance Markers (Without Graph)
Use
NMR LDL-P is a management tool used in appropriate risk-risk patients (type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, CVD risk equivalent, statin-treated patients) to adjudicate response to treatment and guide adjustment in therapy. It is used in conjunction with other lipid measurements and clinical evaluation to aid in the management of lipoprotein disorders associated with cardiovascular disease.
Special Instructions
The NMR method differs from standard chemical methods as it is unaffected by endogenous glycerol, relevant in conditions like Hyperglycerolemia. This test should be used alongside other lipid measurements and clinical evaluations.
Limitations
If triglyceride levels are >800 mg/dL, LDL cholesterol will not be calculated. The test has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The LP-IR Score may be inaccurate if the patient is non-fasting. The performance characteristics were determined by Labcorp, and it is to be used as one component of a physician's clinical assessment.

NMR LipoTube (black-and-yellow-top tube) is the preferred container; plain red-top tube, lavender-top (EDTA-no gel) tube or green-top (heparin-no gel) tube
Collection Instructions
Collect specimen in NMR LipoTube (black-and-yellow-top tube) as the preferred container. Ensure the sample is centrifuged within two hours of collection and before shipment to avoid red cell contamination.
Patient Preparation
Patient should be fasting for eight hours.
Storage Instructions
Refrigerate all acceptable tube types as soon as possible after centrifugation and within 24 hours of collection. Keep refrigerated prior to shipment, and ship on frozen cool packs.
Causes for Rejection
Unspun specimens; plasma/serum contaminated with red cells; citrated plasma (light blue-top tube); gross hemolysis; specimen received in inappropriate container; specimen stored at room temperature for more than a total preanalytical time of 24 hours; specimen more than six days old
