Norovirus, Groups 1 and 2 by PCR

Use
The test is used to detect Norovirus groups 1 and 2 in stool samples. Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that can cause gastroenteritis, characterized by diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and stomach pain. It is important in the clinical diagnosis of infectious diarrhea and helps in outbreak control and management by identifying the presence of the virus.
Special Instructions
ARUP Consult provides test selection and interpretation assistance in the context of infectious diarrhea. Patient stool should be transferred to an unpreserved stool transport vial to maintain sample integrity. The collection materials needed are available through ARUP Supply.
Limitations
A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or test-specific nucleic acid in concentrations below the level of detection by this test. The test has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, and its performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories.
