Oncology FISH Analysis - BCR/ABL t(9;22) is a Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) test designed to detect a common chromosomal rearrangement associated with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). CML is characterized by increased white blood cells in the bone marrow. This assay can identify the Philadelphia chromosome, found in ~95% of CML cases, and is associated with a poor prognosis in ALL and AML. Thus, proper interpretation must consider relevant clinical and pathological data.

Following this assay, results are essential for confirming diagnoses of leukemia, especially when cytogenetic tests yield inconclusive results.
