Oncology FISH Analysis - IGH Rearrangement utilizes a break-apart probe to detect specific IGH-associated rearrangements. This test is critically important for the evaluation of patients with or suspected of having chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas, or pre-B acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). The test provides vital prognostic information regarding the presence of genetic anomalies and tracks treatment response. Each result must be interpreted in the context of comprehensive clinical data and should not be used in isolation for diagnosis. Understanding the rearrangements can significantly influence patient management and therapy strategies.
Special Instructions
The specimen should be shipped at room temperature in an insulated container by overnight courier. It must arrive in the laboratory within 48 hours of collection. Specimens must not be heated or frozen. Proper collection techniques are crucial for accurate results.
Limitations
The FISH assay primarily assesses for gain, loss, or breaks within the IGH loci. While a break may indicate a translocation, the specific partner chromosomes cannot be determined through this test alone. It should be noted that certain chromosomal abnormalities may remain undetected, hence confirming results with alternative testing methods is often advisable. Interpretation is dependent on clinical data; results should not be used standalone as a definitive diagnostic tool.
