Platelet Antibody Identification Panel

Use
The Platelet Antibody Identification Panel is used to detect and identify antibodies against Human Platelet Antigens (HPA) and Glycoproteins (GP) associated with platelet disorders. Detecting these antibodies assists in the diagnosis and management of conditions such as immune thrombocytopenic purpura and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia, helping to guide transfusion strategies and treatment plans.
Special Instructions
This test is performed by a non-ARUP laboratory, Versiti Wisconsin, Inc. Ensure that separate specimens are submitted if multiple tests are ordered. The test samples must be transported as instructed to maintain temperature conditions.
Limitations
The panel may not detect all potential platelet antibodies, and the presence of antibodies outside the test's detection capabilities could result in false negatives. Detection is limited to the specific HPAs and glycoproteins included in the panel. Test results must be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory results. Sample quality, such as hemolysis or improper storage, can affect test accuracy.

Collection Instructions
Collect specimen in a plain red or Serum separator tube (SST). Transfer 5 mL serum to an ARUP standard transport tube. Separate specimens must be submitted if multiple tests are ordered.
Storage Instructions
Store and transport at frozen temperature. Refrigeration is also acceptable.
