Special Instructions
This test requires the collection of stool samples, which must be transferred to an unpreserved stool transport vial. The transport vial is available through ARUP Supply via eSupply or ARUP Client Services. Ensure that the specimen is frozen for transportation and is submitted in a timely manner to avoid compromising the sample integrity.
Limitations
The primary limitation of this test is that it is qualitative and detects the presence of rotavirus antigen in stool samples but does not quantify the viral load. Additionally, it may not detect all strains of rotavirus, as antigenic variation exists among viral strains. Improper sample collection or storage might lead to false results. Samples in diapers or media with preservatives are not acceptable, as they can interfere with the assay and yield inaccurate results.
