Use
This test is the preferred choice for detecting Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and Trichomonas vaginalis across a variety of specimen types. It is particularly useful for diagnosing sexually transmitted infections in patients starting from age 14. This panel utilizes the Transcription-Mediated Amplification (TMA) method for accurate qualitative detection of these infections, supporting timely treatment decisions and reducing transmission risk.
Special Instructions
A specific age requirement is outlined, stating that the patient must be 14 years of age or older for swab or ThinPrep collections. Specimen source information is mandatory, and certain collection kits are specified, such as the Aptima MultiTest Swab Collection kit and the Aptima Urine Specimen Transport Tube. To obtain the collection kits, they can be ordered online or via client services.
Limitations
This test is not valid for the evaluation of suspected sexual abuse or forensic purposes. For C. trachomatis and N. gonorrhoeae infections, a culture may be required by applicable laws and regulations for diagnosis. The test does not include confirmation of positive results by an alternative nucleic acid target, as per 2014 CDC recommendations. Negative results do not completely rule out infection, and results must be interpreted alongside clinical data.
