Use
This test is used for kidney stone risk assessment and monitoring. It provides interpretation of data related to the formation of renal calculi. The panel includes various components such as calcium, chloride, citric acid, creatinine, magnesium, oxalate, pH, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, sulfate, and uric acid. The values assessed indicate the risk associated with the particular concentrations of these analytes, helping to predict the likelihood of kidney stone formation.
Special Instructions
The test requires a 24-hour urine collection and immediate freezing of the samples after processing. Use the Calculi Risk/Supersaturation Urine Collection Kit for optimal results. If the kit is unavailable, unadjusted aliquots may be used.
Limitations
This test does not include testing for magnesium ammonium phosphate (struvite) or cystine calculi. It is designed for predicting calcium oxalate, calcium hydrogen phosphate (brushite), and uric acid calculi formation only. It relies on the proper collection and handling of urine specimens over a 24-hour period, and deviations may affect results.
