Use

Voriconazole is an azole antifungal drug indicated to treat invasive aspergillosis, candidiasis, scedosporiosis, and fusariosis infections. The therapeutic range is determined based on serum, predose (trough) draw collection at steady-state concentration, which is crucial for optimizing drug therapy and monitoring patient adherence. The pharmacokinetics of voriconazole are influenced by drug-drug interactions, particularly when coadministered with drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 2C9, 2C19, and 3A4 enzymes, which underscores the importance of this test in therapeutic drug monitoring.

Special Instructions

Specimens should be collected to represent trough levels just before or within 15 minutes of the next dose, or peak levels at specified times post administration. The specimen should be separated from cells as soon as possible, or at least within 2 hours of collection, and transferred to the appropriate transport tube.

Patient Preparation
