Aldosterone 30 Minute
Also known as: ALDO 30
Use
The Aldosterone 30 Minute test is commonly used in aldosterone stimulation testing. It is particularly utilized in the diagnostic workup for conditions such as primary aldosteronism and adrenal insufficiency, providing valuable information about aldosterone secretion levels following a specified stimulation protocol. This aids healthcare providers in assessing the function of the adrenal glands and diagnosing potential hormone disorders.
Special Instructions
Patients should collect the specimen midmorning after sitting, standing, or walking for at least 2 hours and seating for 5-15 minutes. Additional technical specifications and guidelines from the Endocrine Society concerning patient preparation and medications for hypertension control are available and should be consulted to ensure accurate results, specifically avoiding factors that might lead to false-positive or false-negative aldosterone-renin ratio (ARR) results.
Limitations
This test may produce inaccurate results if not conducted with the recommended patient preparations. Factors influencing sample handling, collection timing, and the presence of certain medications could result in interference, potentially skewing the aldosterone-renin ratio and affecting the diagnostic conclusions for conditions like primary aldosteronism.
