Aldosterone 60 Minute
Also known as: ALDO 60
Use
The Aldosterone 60 Minute test is used in aldosterone stimulation testing which is useful for diagnosing conditions related to the adrenal glands, such as primary aldosteronism or adrenal insufficiency. By measuring the concentration of aldosterone in the blood at specific intervals, this test helps assess the function of the adrenal glands and may guide treatment decisions for disorders related to these glands.
Special Instructions
Patient preparation involves collecting the sample midmorning after the patient has been sitting, standing, or walking for at least 2 hours and then seated for 5-15 minutes. Specific patient preparation recommendations and instructions for medications to control hypertension during confirmatory testing for primary aldosteronism are available in the additional technical information.
Limitations
Improper patient preparation, such as not following the recommended posture or timing for sample collection, may lead to inaccurate results. Medications, diet, and other health conditions that affect hydration and blood pressure may also alter aldosterone levels and affect test results. Failing to immediately separate the serum from cells or using inappropriate specimen types like EDTA plasma can lead to sample rejection or erroneous results, impacting clinical interpretation.
