Allergen, Food, Basil IgE
Also known as: BASIL
Use
This test measures the concentration of IgE antibodies to basil allergens in the serum, which aids in the diagnosis of allergic reactions to basil. The results help predict the probability of clinical reactions to this food allergen and are used in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens. The quantitative results provide guidance on allergen-specific immunotherapy and patient management.
Special Instructions
Please review the Specimen Collection and Handling Instructions to ensure adequate volume for allergen testing. Multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen for multiple allergen orders.
Limitations
Allergen results of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use as the clinical relevance is undetermined. The concentrations of allergen-specific IgE obtained may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results. A negative test does not rule out clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis, so results must be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests.
