Allergen, Food, Coconut IgG
Also known as: COCONUTIGG
Use
The Allergen, Food, Coconut IgG test is used to detect the presence of IgG antibodies specific to coconut allergens in the serum. This test helps assess whether an allergic reaction may be mediated by IgG antibodies. Elevated levels of allergen-specific IgG antibodies may indicate exposure to the allergen, but the clinical significance of elevated IgG levels in food allergy diagnosis is still under investigation. This test may be used in conjunction with IgE testing and clinical evaluation.
Special Instructions
For accurate results, it is important to follow all specimen handling and preparation instructions. Serum should be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection and transferred to an appropriate transport tube. It's crucial to store and transport the specimen under refrigerated conditions to maintain stability.
Limitations
The test only quantifies IgG antibodies specific to coconut allergens and does not measure IgE antibodies, which are typically more clinically relevant in food allergies. Elevated IgG levels are not necessarily indicative of an allergy. Test interpretation should consider the clinical context, as IgG antibodies can be present in individuals without clinical symptoms. Hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens may lead to unreliable results and are therefore unacceptable.
