Allergen, Food, Corn
Also known as: CORN
Use
This test is used to measure the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to corn in the patient's serum. It assists in diagnosing IgE-mediated hypersensitivity to corn, which is useful for specialist assessment of allergic reactions. The correlation of laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity is essential for proper diagnosis since laboratory results alone may not predict the clinical response to corn exposure.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided when preparing for the test. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. Refer to the "Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions" for multiple allergen orders at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen.
Limitations
Concentrations of allergen-specific IgE do not always correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when the patient is challenged with the specific allergen. A negative test result does not necessarily rule out clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis. Allergen results within the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use as the clinical relevance is undetermined. There is a need to correlate laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity.
