Allergen, Food, Honeydew Melon/Cantaloupe
Also known as: HONEY DEW
Use
This test measures IgE antibodies to determine if a person has a sensitivity or allergy to honeydew melon or cantaloupe. Elevations in IgE levels to specific allergens can help confirm a diagnosis of allergic sensitization. Clinical correlation with the patient's history and other clinical findings is necessary to determine the clinical relevance of the test result.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure the accuracy of test results. For multiple allergen orders, refer to the Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions on ARUP's website.
Limitations
The presence of allergen-specific IgE does not always correlate with the clinical severity of allergic symptoms. Allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted with caution. Clinical correlation is essential, as a negative result does not rule out the possibility of allergy or anaphylaxis.
