Allergen, Food, Plaice IgE
Also known as: PLAICE
Use
The Allergen, Food, Plaice IgE test is used to assess the presence of IgE antibodies specific to the allergen Plaice. It helps in determining the probability of an IgE-mediated clinical reaction. The test is useful for confirming sensitization to this specific allergen as part of a comprehensive allergy assessment by correlating laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens. However, the concentration of allergen-specific IgE may not always correlate with the severity of clinical responses or skin test outcomes.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided during collection. It is crucial to ensure adequate volume for allergen testing and to separate serum from cells as soon as possible after collection. For multiple allergen orders, refer to the Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions on the ARUP website.
Limitations
The test measures concentrations of allergen-specific IgE, but these may not directly correspond to the degree of clinical response or skin testing results following exposure to the allergen. A result in the 0.10-0.34 kU/L range has undetermined clinical relevance and is recommended for specialist use. Negative results do not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or anaphylaxis, emphasizing the importance of clinical correlation with patient history.
