Allergen Profile, Food−Fish
Use
The Allergen Profile, Food-Fish is designed to measure specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in patient serum to detect allergies related to certain fish. This test provides quantitative IgE results for each specific fish allergen included in the panel, enabling clinicians to assess allergic sensitivity, guide dietary recommendations, and tailor allergy management for patients exhibiting symptoms consistent with food allergies to the included fish types.
Special Instructions
The test includes IgE measurements for multiple fish species, which can help in clarifying sensitivity to specific fish allergens. Proper specimen collection and handling are crucial for accurate results. Healthcare providers should ensure specimens are labeled correctly and free from any interfering substances, such as recently administered isotopes, to avoid rejection.
Limitations
This test specifically measures IgE antibodies against the listed fish allergens and may not detect other potential allergens. Results must be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and symptomatology. Cross-reactivity among different fish species can occur, and the test might not differentiate between closely related fish allergens or allergens not covered in the panel. In the event of gross hemolysis or other pre-analytical issues, specimens may be rejected.
