Allergen, Food, Plum
Also known as: PLUM
Use
This test is used to quantify allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the serum for plum food allergens. It helps to assess the likelihood of a clinical allergic reaction to plum, though the precise IgE concentration may not correlate directly with the severity of the clinical response or skin test results. The test results should be interpreted together with the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic data.
Special Instructions
Ensure the proper volume is collected using a serum separator tube, as multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Use the provided ARUP Standard Transport Tube for serum transfer.
Limitations
Low levels of allergen-specific IgE may not necessarily imply a clinical allergy, thus a negative result does not rule out allergenic reactions or anaphylaxis. Results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by specialists. The correlation between laboratory allergy results and clinical history is crucial for accurate diagnosis.
