Allergen, Food, Scallop
Also known as: SCALLOP
Use
The Allergen, Food, Scallop test is used to detect IgE antibodies specific to scallop allergens. Increased levels of allergen-specific IgE indicate an increased probability of an allergic immune response when exposed to scallops. This test can support the diagnosis of food allergies and help guide dietary modifications for allergy management. The correlation of laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential for accurate interpretation.
Special Instructions
Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, and within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 0.5 mL of serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube, with a minimum of 0.25 mL required. For multiple allergen orders, refer to the 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' at the provided ARUP Laboratory website. It's important to avoid multiple patient encounters to ensure the integrity of the sample collection process.
Limitations
Allergen test results ranging between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist interpretation as clinical relevance is not well determined in this range. Even though increasing IgE concentrations suggest a higher likelihood of a clinically significant allergic reaction, these concentrations may not directly correlate with the degree of clinical allergic response or with results from skin testing. Negative test results do not necessarily rule out the presence of a clinical allergy or the potential for anaphylaxis.
