Allergen, Grass, Cultivated Corn Pollen
Also known as: CORN POL
Use
This test quantitatively measures the level of IgE antibodies specific to cultivated corn pollen allergens in a patient's serum. It is used to assess allergic sensitization to corn pollen, which can be associated with allergic rhinitis, asthma, and other IgE-mediated allergic reactions. The test may aid in the diagnosis of allergic conditions and in the assessment of the allergy's clinical significance by correlating with patient history and clinical reactivity to specific allergens.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Specimen should be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection to ensure sample integrity for testing. For multiple allergen orders, consult the allergen specimen collection instructions on the ARUP website.
Limitations
The concentration of allergen-specific IgE measured by this test may not directly correlate with the degree of clinical response experienced by the patient. A negative test result does not exclude the possibility of an allergic reaction upon exposure to the allergen. Additionally, results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by a specialist in the context of patient history and clinical findings.
