Allergen, Insects and Venom, Honey Bee IgG
Also known as: HON B IGG
Use
The Allergen, Insects and Venom, Honey Bee IgG test is used to measure specific IgG antibody levels against honey bee venom. It is intended for clinical use in evaluating potential allergic reactions to honey bee stings by determining the concentration of allergen-specific IgG antibodies in the serum. Values less than 2.00 mcg/mL suggest absent or undetectable levels, indicating a lower likelihood of an allergic response; measurements above this level may suggest sensitization, but clinical correlation and further evaluation are recommended.
Special Instructions
This test is not approved for use with specimens collected from New York state clients. Such specimens will be sent out to a New York state-approved laboratory. Ensure serum is separated from cells as soon as possible and transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
Results are specific to the honey bee venom IgG and are not indicative of an allergic reaction severity by themselves. The absence of FDA clearance or approval means it should be used with caution and always in conjunction with a patient's clinical context and history. Hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens are unacceptable, and care must be taken to adhere to storage and preparation instructions.
