Allergen, Mites, D. pteronyssinus
Also known as: DPTER
Use
The Allergen, Mites, D. pteronyssinus test measures allergen-specific IgE levels, aiding in the diagnosis of allergic reactions to house dust mites. ImmunoCAP measures serum levels of IgE antibody specific to Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, providing insight into the patient's sensitivity and guiding clinical management of allergic conditions such as asthma and rhinitis triggered by dust mite exposure.
Special Instructions
This test requires serum collection in a serum separator tube. Ensure immediate separation of serum from cells within 2 hours. Multiple encounters with patients should be avoided to ensure proper sample handling. Refer to the 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' for details on handling multiple allergen orders.
Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE concentrations might not correlate with the clinical response severity when challenged with specific allergens. Variability in test results can occur due to different factors, including allergen cross-reactivity and natural fluctuations in serum IgE levels. A negative result does not exclude allergic conditions or anaphylaxis, and clinical correlation is essential for accurate diagnosis.
