Allergen, Tree, Birch Tree
Also known as: BIRCH
Use
The Allergen, Tree, Birch Tree test is used to detect specific IgE antibodies against birch tree allergens, which are responsible for allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. This test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE to determine the likelihood of a clinical reaction. However, the results must be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and other allergy tests, as the detected concentrations may not directly correlate with the severity of allergic reactions or skin test results.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided for clearer results. When ordering this test among others for allergens, refer to the 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen for specific guidelines. Ensure proper specimen handling by separating serum from cells as soon as possible to maintain specimen integrity.
Limitations
The concentration of allergen-specific IgE identified in the test results might not correlate with the degree of clinical allergy response. For example, a negative test result does not rule out the presence of clinical allergies or anaphylaxis. Test results with IgE levels between 0.10-0.34 kU/L have an undetermined clinical relevance and are intended for specialist evaluation. It is important to use the results in conjunction with clinical history and other diagnostic procedures.
