Allergen, Tree, Cottonwood Tree
Also known as: COTTON
Use
This test is used to measure the level of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in response to the Cottonwood Tree. It's useful for diagnosing allergies related to this specific allergen. Increasing concentrations of allergen-specific IgE might indicate sensitization to the allergen, but these levels don't always correlate with the clinical severity of the allergy symptoms. Interpretation of results in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and additional testing is essential for accurate diagnosis.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided for accurate testing. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. The test can be ordered alongside other allergen tests, based on a comprehensive allergen assessment as needed. Refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' on the ARUP website for detailed information.
Limitations
Allergen results in the 0.10-0.34 kU/L range have undetermined clinical relevance. The levels of IgE measured do not necessarily correlate with the degree of allergic reaction or skin test results. This test may not identify all individuals at risk for anaphylaxis or other allergic reactions, and a negative result does not rule out allergy. Clinical history and in vivo reactivity should always be considered alongside laboratory results.
