Cottonwood
Use
The Cottonwood test measures the specific IgE antibodies in the blood against Cottonwood allergens. This test is typically used to diagnose allergic reactions to Cottonwood pollen, helping healthcare providers determine if a patient is sensitized to this specific allergen. Positive results may indicate a likely clinical allergy to Cottonwood pollen exposure.
Special Instructions
This test uses a serum specimen collected in a red-top or gel-barrier tube. Ensure the patient adheres to any pre-test instructions given by the healthcare provider. Specimens are stable at room temperature and refrigerated conditions for up to 14 days, and can be frozen for up to 3 months.
Limitations
The test may not detect all cases of Cottonwood pollen allergy as results can vary based on individual sensitivity and exposure. Cross-reactivity with other tree pollens can also affect results. Negative results do not entirely rule out the possibility of allergic reactions.
