Use
This test is used to quantify allergen-specific IgE antibodies in serum for the Virginia Live Oak Tree. The results can help to identify sensitization to this particular allergen, but they do not necessarily correlate with the severity of an allergic reaction or potential in vivo response. It is essential to interpret these results in the context of clinical history and possible allergen exposure, as very low levels may still indicate sensitization that could be clinically relevant.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Use a serum separator tube for collection. After collection, serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible and transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
Results within the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted with caution. The presence of allergen-specific IgE at increased levels does not inherently mean a clinical allergy is present, and results should be correlated with clinical history and potential allergen exposure. False negatives may occur, and the test does not rule out the potential for allergic reaction or anaphylaxis.
