Allergen, Weed, Cocklebur
Also known as: COCKLEBUR
Use
The Allergen, Weed, Cocklebur test is used to measure the level of IgE antibodies in serum specific to cocklebur allergens. This test is helpful in assessing IgE mediated allergic responses in patients potentially sensitive to cocklebur pollen. A physician uses these results, in conjunction with a patient’s clinical history and in vivo reactivity, to evaluate allergy status and determine a corresponding management plan.
Special Instructions
Please ensure adequate volume for allergen testing by reviewing the Specimen Collection and Handling Instructions. For multiple allergen orders, refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen.
Limitations
Despite the detection of allergen-specific IgE, concentrations may not correlate directly with the clinical response or skin testing results when the patient is challenged with the allergen. A negative result does not completely rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or anaphylactic reaction. Allergen results that fall between 0.10 and 0.34 kU/L should be interpreted cautiously and in the context of comprehensive clinical assessments.
