Blastomyces Antigen Quantitative by EIA, Urine
Also known as: BLASTOAG U
Use
The Blastomyces Antigen Quantitative by EIA, Urine test is used to diagnose and monitor infections by Blastomyces dermatitidis. It is a quantitative enzyme immunoassay that measures antigen levels in urine. The assay aids in the diagnosis of blastomycosis, a fungal infection, when used alongside other diagnostic procedures like microbiological culture, biopsy sample histological examination, serology, and radiographic evidence. Antigen concentrations are quantified within the range of 1.25-200 U/mL, assisting healthcare providers in determining the presence and progression of the infection.
Special Instructions
For serum specimens, refer to Blastomyces Antigen Quantitative by EIA (2002926). The test should be used alongside other diagnostic methods to ensure accuracy. Cross-reactivity with other endemic mycoses, such as Histoplasma and Coccidioides, may occur, and positive results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and exposure history.
Limitations
The quantitative range of this assay is 1.25-200 U/mL. Antigen concentrations below 1.25 U/mL or above 200 U/mL fall outside the assay's linear range and cannot be quantified accurately. Cross-reactivity may occur with other endemic mycoses like Histoplasma and Coccidioides, potentially compromising specificity. The test results should be correlated with clinical and exposure history for accurate diagnosis.
