Calcitonin by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: CALCIT IHC
Use
An immunohistochemical stain for calcitonin, performed as a technical “stain and return” service, primarily used to assess tissue samples—particularly thyroid C‑cells and medullary thyroid carcinoma—by identifying calcitonin expression in fixed, embedded specimens.
Special Instructions
Submit electronic request or use ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) if electronic ordering is unavailable. Use tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808) for transport. Protect specimens from excessive heat; if using precut slides, do not oven bake.
Limitations
Specimens must be representative tissue; depleted specimens are unacceptable. Frozen specimens are unacceptable. Non‑representative tissue types and depleted specimens lead to rejection. Slides must not be oven‑baked.
