Comprehensive Kidney Biopsy Workup
Also known as: KID REQ
Use
The Comprehensive Kidney Biopsy Workup is intended for the thorough examination of renal biopsy specimens. This workup helps in diagnosing various renal diseases, including glomerular, tubular, and interstitial pathologies. It provides detailed histopathological evaluation to identify the presence of conditions such as nephropathy, glomerulosclerosis, and interstitial fibrosis, aiding clinicians in formulating appropriate treatment strategies based on the specific renal pathology identified.
Special Instructions
Detailed collection instructions are available in the Renal Biopsy Collection Kit (#40460). Use of a different collection kit could result in suboptimal biopsy fixation and delays in diagnosis. Include nephrologist name and contact information, patient history relating to kidney function, and indication of whether the biopsy is native or transplant. Label all vials with the patient's full name and unique identifier. Avoid drying of specimens; ensure specimens are completely submerged in fixative.
Limitations
The test might be limited by inadequate specimen quality or volume, which could affect the interpretability of the results. Suboptimal fixation due to inappropriate collection kit can delay diagnosis and compromise specimen integrity. The absence of glomeruli in the renal tissue or the presence of nonrepresentative tissue types are unacceptable conditions for testing.
