Drug Detection Panel and THC Metabolite, Meconium, Qualitative
Also known as: M PAN_THC
Use
This test is used to detect and document fetal drug exposure during approximately the last trimester of a full-term pregnancy. This aids in identifying maternal drug use, which can have implications for the management and care of the newborn. Note that the pattern and frequency of drug use by the mother cannot be determined by this test. Detection of drugs depends on the extent of maternal drug use, the stability, unique characteristics of drug deposition in meconium, and the performance of the analytical method.
Special Instructions
Collect all meconium (blackish material) excreted until milk/formula-based stool (yellow-green) appears. Transport all available meconium to a routine urine collection cup or a Security Kit for Meconium/Umbilical Drug Detection available through ARUP supply.
Limitations
This test does not distinguish between the delta-8 and delta-9 forms of THC or their metabolites. A negative result does not exclude the possibility of maternal drug use during pregnancy. Detection of drugs administered during labor and delivery or directly to the infant after birth may occur. Detection does not insinuate impairment and may not affect outcomes for the infant. Not valid for forensic use.
