Drug Detection Panel, Umbilical Cord Tissue, Qualitative
Use
Detection of drugs in umbilical cord tissue is intended to reflect maternal drug use during approximately the last trimester of a full-term pregnancy. The test does not determine the pattern and frequency of drug use nor does a negative result exclude the possibility of drug use. Detection depends on extent of usage, drug stability, and specific deposition characteristics in umbilical cord tissue. Drugs administered during labor may also be detected. This test is for medical purposes only and is not valid for forensic use.
Special Instructions
The test includes drugs covered and their respective cutoff concentrations. For THC metabolite, see Drug Detection Panel and THC Metabolite, Umbilical Cord Tissue, Qualitative (3006371). The minimum umbilical cord length required is 6 inches.
Limitations
The test cannot determine the pattern and frequency of maternal drug use and a negative result does not exclude the possibility of drug use. It is dependent on the extent of maternal drug use, drug stability, unique characteristics of drug deposition, and performance of the analytical method. Detection of drugs does not insinuate impairment or affect outcomes for the infant.
