Epstein-Barr Virus Antibody Panel II
Also known as: EBV PAN 2
Use
The Epstein-Barr Virus Antibody Panel II aids in determining past or present Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, as well as susceptibility to future EBV infection. It may also be used in conjunction with EBV nuclear antigen testing to diagnose primary EBV infectious mononucleosis. This panel is particularly helpful in various clinical settings to assess a patient's EBV status, whether in the acute phase or as a follow-up in convalescent cases.
Special Instructions
Specimen should be collected in a serum separator tube (SST). Allow the specimen to clot completely at room temperature, and then separate from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. Parallel testing is preferred, and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days of the acute specimens.
Limitations
The test results are subject to limitations common to immunoassays, including potential interference from contaminants such as icteric or hemolyzed samples. Repeated freeze/thaw cycles can also affect sample integrity, potentially impacting accuracy. Interpretation of results, especially in ambiguous ranges, may require additional testing to confirm EBV status.
