Little e Antigen Typing - Patient
Also known as: E LITTLEAG
Use
The Little e Antigen Typing - Patient test is used to determine if the e (RH5) antigen is expressed on the patient's red blood cells. This information is critical for blood transfusion compatibility and in cases where identifying antigen status can prevent hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN). Determining an individual's antigen status can aid in managing patients requiring repeated transfusions, where antigen matching is crucial.
Special Instructions
To assess if the patient is heterozygous or homozygous for the e antigen, the E Antigen Typing - Patient (2007941) should also be ordered. Ensure that the sample is properly collected using the recommended tubes and storage conditions to avoid rejection.
Limitations
This test may not detect all possible allele variations of the e (RH5) antigen. Negative results do not entirely rule out the presence of rare antigenic variants or mutations. Factors such as recent blood transfusions can affect test results and should be considered when interpreting results. Improper specimen handling, including freezing or using separator tubes, can lead to sample rejection and affect test accuracy.
