N Antigen Typing - Patient
Also known as: N AG
Use
The N Antigen Typing - Patient test is used to determine the presence of the N (MNS2) antigen on the patient's red blood cells. This information can be important for transfusion medicine and helps ascertain if the patient is heterozygous or homozygous for the N antigen. It is recommended to also order the M Antigen Typing - Patient (2007719) test for a comprehensive understanding of the patient's antigen status.
Special Instructions
The specimen should not be frozen as it may compromise the test results. Adequate care should be taken to ensure the blood sample is transported at the recommended temperature.
Limitations
The test is limited by the inability to detect all possible antigenic variants. Specimen handling conditions outside the specified range, such as being frozen or room temperature exposure, may affect test accuracy. Serum separation tubes are unacceptable and can lead to sample rejection; therefore, proper sample collection and transport are crucial.
