P/Q-Type Voltage-Gated Calcium Channel (VGCC) Antibody
Also known as: VGCC AB
Use
The P/Q-Type Voltage-Gated Calcium Channel (VGCC) Antibody test is used to detect antibodies against P/Q type voltage-gated calcium channels. It aids in the evaluation of muscle weakness, particularly in the context of neuromuscular junction disorders with or without associated cancer, or for the diagnosis of paraneoplastic neurological syndromes. The presence of these antibodies can be indicative of paraneoplastic conditions related to cancer, such as Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome or other paraneoplastic neurological syndromes.

Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, but it is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory for clinical purposes. Potential limitations include specific assay performance and potential for cross-reactivity with other antibodies.
