Rapid Acute Myeloid Leukemia Targeted Therapy Mutation Panel
Also known as: RAPID AML
Use
This test is used upon initial diagnosis or overt relapse of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) to rapidly assess for clinically actionable mutations. These mutations include substitutions and smaller insertions and deletions in select regions of targeted genes that may have prognostic and/or therapeutic significance in AML. This test aids in the timely identification of prognostic markers and is beneficial for immediate patient management. It is cost-effective compared to multiple single gene tests and complements the morphologic and cytogenetic workup of AML.
Special Instructions
This test is not intended to detect minimal residual disease (MRD). It has a fast turnaround time, which is critical for timely identification of prognostic markers. Comply with the New York State Department of Health Non-Permitted Laboratory Request Form (NPL) for non-approved laboratories if applicable.
Limitations
Variants outside the targeted regions or below the limit of detection are not identified. Large insertion/deletion variants may not be detected, and variants at exon-intron boundaries may be undetectable. The presence of pseudogenes and GC-rich regions can limit detection capabilities. This test does not distinguish between somatic and germline variants and is not intended for detecting minimal residual disease. Variant allele frequency is not reported for certain mutations (e.g., FLT3-ITD mutations larger than 126 bp).
