Recoverin Antibody, IgG by Immunoblot, Serum
Also known as: RECOV SER
Use
Antibodies to recoverin are found in a subset of patients with cancer-associated retinopathy. Symptoms of rapidly progressive bilateral vision loss may precede detection of cancer, and a positive test result should prompt a search for malignancy, most often small cell lung adenocarcinoma. This test may aid in the diagnosis of bilateral rapidly progressive vision loss and suspected cancer-associated retinopathy.
Special Instructions
This test only evaluates for the presence of autoantibodies to recoverin. If a panel test is clinically indicated, consider ordering Autoimmune Vision Loss Panel, Serum (3016804) to assess for the presence of antibodies to recoverin and CV2/CRMP5.
Limitations
A negative test result does not rule out the diagnosis of autoimmune vision loss. Results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history, neurologic and ophthalmologic exam, and other laboratory findings.
