Saccharomyces cerevisiae Antibodies, IgG & IgA
Also known as: SC PAN
Use
Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies may aid in the diagnosis of Crohn disease. The test should be used in conjunction with other clinical parameters to confirm the disease. Saccharomyces cerevisiae IgG antibodies are found in 60-70% of Crohn disease patients and 10-15% of ulcerative colitis patients. IgA antibodies are found in about 35% of Crohn disease patients and less than 1% of ulcerative colitis patients. Detection of both IgG and IgA antibodies is highly specific for Crohn disease, which can help distinguish it from ulcerative colitis.
Special Instructions
The Inflammatory Bowel Disease Differentiation Panel (3003748) is the preferred test for better differentiation. Use this test in conjunction with other diagnostic parameters for more accurate diagnosis.
Limitations
This test, by itself, is not diagnostic and should not be used as the sole method for diagnosing Crohn disease. The presence of antibodies should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests to establish the diagnosis of inflammatory bowel disease. False positives or negatives may occur, and the presence of antibodies in other conditions can affect specificity.
