Stool Culture, Campylobacter
Also known as: MC CAMP
Use
This test is used to identify the presence of Campylobacter species in stool, which can be a potential cause of diarrhea. It is most relevant for patients with appropriate exposure history or risk factors associated with Campylobacter infection.
Special Instructions
The test requires stool specimens to be preserved in Cary-Blair enteric transport media immediately after collection using ARUP supply #29799. This can be ordered online through ARUP Connect™ or by contacting ARUP Client Services.
Limitations
The test is unable to process multiple specimens collected within 24 hours, and delayed transportation of samples without proper preservation leads to rejection. Unpreserved specimens are stable for 2 hours at ambient temperature, while preserved specimens must be stored and transported refrigerated or at ambient temperature within 72 hours.
